Paul and Dian Bender Freshman Physics Scholarship (Download Application)

This scholarship is intended for students who are planning to major in physics. It is competitive and awarded annually by the department to an incoming freshman student. Yearly winners are selected using an application process based on high school grade point average, one or two letters of recommendation from high school teachers, and a short statement of interests and goals The deadline for application for the Paul and Dian Bender Scholarship is early spring. The award amount varies and will be awarded in two separate equal portions during the academic year.

Claire May Band Physics Scholarships  

The Claire May Band Scholarship in Physics was established in 1989 to recognize outstanding women interested in the physics program at Washington State University.The award amount varies and will be awarded in two separate equal portions during the academic year. Department of Physics Transfer Student Scholarships  (Download Application)

Students transferring to WSU at a sophomore standing or higher are eligible for this award, with the winner expected to declare himself or herself a certified physics major during the first two semesters at WSU. This competitive award covers the cost of in-state tuition at WSU for one semester, paid out in two equal portions during the academic year. Winners are selected on the basis of their college or community college grade point average and one or two letters of recommendations from college instructors. The application deadline for the award is early spring.

Paul Anderson Award for Excellence in Physics Scholarship

Academic excellence and/or exceptional research are the criteria to receive the Paul Anderson Award for Excellence in Physics Scholarship. A cash award and a certificate are presented to either undergraduate physics majors for exceptional academics or to graduate students who excel in their dissertation research.

Edward E. Donaldson Surface Science

The Edward E. and Virginia Donaldson Surface Science Scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in graduate research in the area of Surface Science. The scholarship recipient receives a certificate and cash award.

George E. Duval Scholarship in Shock Compression Science

This scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in graduate research in the area of Shock Compression Science. The George E. Duvall Scholarship requires a special application and is awarded yearly. Both a cash award and certificate are presented to the awardees.

Department of Physics Textbook Scholarship

A $100.00 scholarship is awarded to certified physics majors who earn a GPA of B+ (3.30) or better and are enrolled for 12 credits or more during a fall or spring semester, and in the subsequent semester (fall or spring semesters only). They must still be working on their degree work. A various number of these awards are made each semester.
