Abstract
The Wonderful Universe of Low Mass X-ray Binaries
I will present recent results from X-ray observations of low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). These systems are the most extreme environments in the universe and can probe general relativity, accretion theory, and star formation history. I will discuss recent results from the high-resolution spectral observations of Galactic LMXBs that have been used to constrain emission models for LMXBs and study the interstellar medium of the Milky Way. I will also present observations of LMXBs in nearby early-type galaxies which provide constraints on the formation and evolution of LMXBs. Finally, I will discuss the prospects for continued studies of the emission processes, environments, and formation mechanisms of LMXBs using new and archival data.
Please come meet the speaker over refreshments from 3:45-4:10pm in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall. All Welcome Host: Guy Worthey
